Night Off

Friday, January 30th, 2009

I don’t have very many free evenings.  Tonight I wasn’t really sure what to do with my free evening.  In the end I went to MEC and bought some chain degreaser, a few energy bars, and some chain lube.  I also stopped in at two other outdoor goods stores “Bushtukah” and “Trailhead”.  Spent about an hour cleaning my commuter bike chain… and figuring out some way to extend the front fender.

Listening

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I taught a guy how to learn how to listen to music better as a soundguy.  “Listen to the strings come in now”.  “Can you hear the snare drum?” “That sound is a tambourine.”  “The toms go like this…”  “That is a hi-hat sound.”

Sometimes I don’t realize how little other people listen to music and how music sounds and is put together.  Sometimes it’s impossible for me to ignore the fact that a hi-hat opened or the timing of the entry of an instrument.  Or the tone of a keyboard or guitar.  Not that I’m even an expert in tone, haha.

GK Chesterton on life and joy

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I just read some more of “Orthodoxy” by G.K. Chesterton.  I’ve been working at this for over a year now.  And like in Roz’s blog post about reading, a lot of it is way over my head!

But here is one analogy that I just understood: human joy and life is like a mirror, that if you were to strike it, in an instant it would be broken; however, if you were to leave it be, it could last forever.

This is interesting when thought of from the point of view of sin and free-will.  The picture he’s painting in this chapter is way bigger than that, but for now that’s as much as I can actually describe!

Enjoy that image.

Sick

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Oh Man, I woke up with a headache which may be a fever and the stuffy nose and sore throat that I thought I had passed.  I do believe this is known as a forced day of rest.  And I don’t want to stay home, I would rather be on campus…
