Drive by on Catherine Street

I had no idea

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Here’s a tip for all you commenters: if you use the same name/information each time you make a comment on my blog, it’ll get through right away.  I don’t have to moderate it.  I only moderate the ones that are first-time commenters, protecting against comment spambots.  So if you plan on using various aliases to be funny and all, it’s a lot more work for me, and you don’t get the satisfaction of seeing your comment appear immediately.  Leave your humour inside the comment itself!! Haha..

So tonight I’ve been installing Final Cut Studio.   Earlier tonight I installed Creative Suite 3 (Master Collection).  CS3 consumes about 25GB.  FCS2 consumes about 50GB.  Leopard consumed about 9GB.  After all this, I’m still planning on installing Parallels and Windows XP.  XP will take up 1.5GB.  I’m not really sure how much hard drive space I will have remaining afterwards… I’m kind of scared I won’t have much left to store files! Wow.

With all this hard disk space being taken up, I expect to be able to make some powerful looking stuff afterwards… at the click of a button.  I mean, seriously, it should be able to make great videos and print media on its own for being so huge, these programs.  You’d think there was artificial intelligence (AI) put into it or something.

Cooking with Silas

Monday, January 14th, 2008

If you know me well, you know that I do enjoy cooking. But yesterday wasn’t one of those days that it would seem so.

After church I realized that I wasn’t that hungry and so I decided to go drive to the Gatineau Park to check it out. Turns out, it is massive. Huge. I drove for about an hour along one side and I didn’t get very far still. I’m excited by this new discovery. I will likely go there a lot on weekends.

Well when I got home, it was about 3:00pm and I needed to grab a quick bite, so I turned to Sidekicks. It was the Alfredo Spaghettini kind. So I did the stuff as instructed, 250 mL of water and 250 mL of milk, bring to a boil. I walked to my computer to check some blogs. Turns out, I walked away for too long. I left the lid on and the mixture boiled in what seemed like 1 minute. When I heard it, I ran back and liquid was pouring out of the pot right into the under-stove portion of the oven…. under the element. I couldn’t do much else, so I just moved the pot, there wasn’t much liquid left in it.

I figured there was still enough to attempt to cook the pasta and powder, so I opened the package and as I poured it into the pot, half of the package missed and poured onto the ground, into the bottom oven drawer, even through the door into the oven itself, somehow. If I was the crying sort, I probably would have teared up. But I’m not, so I just kind of purposefully whimpered in case there was anyone around to hear me.

So I grabbed the vacuum cleaner, cleaned up all the mess and powder, and tried to still salvage what I could (ie. put the remaining powder and pasta into the pot). Well, a minute later everything had solidified and the pasta still wasn’t totally cooked (I tried it) so I gave up and took it as a sign that I should go to the Mexican restaurant (Feleena’s) nearby for some taco salad. I had been contemplating that after church. It was a good, spicy taco salad.

Oh, and when I shared this with some Carleton students, they were like “we’ve got to find Silas a wife!”  Haha… and then just now today I cooked Sidekicks for lunch just to vindicate myself.

RIP Sir Edmund Hillary

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

A great hero of exploration and mountaineering, a man of tremendous ferocity and humility.  Sir Edmund Hillary is a man that we can all admire.  What a legacy he has left.  May the Lord’s blessing be on this man.  Here’s the link.
