Dang those are long

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

I just realized, I guess once again, that my post URL’s are so massive long. For instance, go check out the link below this post where the time of post is. One post’s URL is like

haha… I think that’s really funny and cool. PHP makes everything look cool.

Duty to vote?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

So, election day was yesterday.

As a Canadian citizen, member of a democratic country, is there actually a duty for me to vote? I mean, I know that I have the right to vote, but I’m not to certain that I have a duty to vote.

Voting definitely makes your voice heard. Although today’s system isn’t exactly the best, since proportional representation might more accurately reflect the nation’s say, votes do count and change the results.

Not voting is simply an expression of the freedom of speech though! To not vote would be to say “I don’t care” or “I don’t think my vote counts” or “I don’t like any of the candidates”. Everyone is entitled to that opinion, no?

I do believe that voting is the most democratic way to find leadership for a country, as far as I know. I’m not sure what other ways the opinions of people can be brought to light! But I don’t think anyone has any grounds to say “Canadian citizens have a duty to vote”. Do you?

I prefer to use the terms “exercising a right”. Maybe it’s all just semantics…

Let’s spark some discussion!

Man, I haven’t posted in a while, mainly trying to keep up with work, trying to cut down on all the naps, and getting my spiritual life back on track. But some interesting topics have come up in my comments!

How image-centric should my webpage be? One thing I’m noticing is yes, indeed, my left side bar is getting cluttered with “advertising” although I put it there myself cuz it looks kinda cool. But I’m beginning to rethink that, in order to cut down on webpage loading time and needless promotion of stuff I use, but don’t totally support.

Images make a webpage look nice; pages with only text usually lose my interest quickly. However, the content of a blog is usually its text, unless it is a photoblog, of course.

These days, with higher bandwidth, most people don’t care how large a page is because it doesn’t take them any time to load. But I’m finding out that some friends I know actually visit my blog through a dial-up connection, at a high cost (more remote locations).

What do you think? Images are nice, but loading time matters.

When we were up at the cottage, we also went to a store called B’s Antiques… Dan found a postcard of Mac Hall from wayyy back, and I have just discovered that it was from 1910! Wow, check out the picture here: mac-hall.jpg
