Back in Toronto again

Thursday, April 29th, 2004

After 2 days and a night in Kingston, I’m back in Toronto already. I gave myself almost the whole day to recover from a full day’s worth of packing, loading, sitting in the van, and unloading.

My parents arrived early on Wednesday and we spent most of that morning packing stuff into boxes and then into the vans. One of the minivans belonged to us, and the other minivan we borrowed from a close church friend. We ended up stuffing these vans almost totally full, even with all the rear seats taken out.

A nice interlude during the day was brunch (nah, it was pretty much lunch) with Kristen. She came in from Brockville (a quick 45 minutes away!) specially for this occasion; it was a rare opportunity that came up unexpectedly and I jumped at it. We were able to take an hour or so to catch up with each other at a nice little bakery/restaurant on Princess St.

Driving back to Toronto I sat with my dad listening to the CD’s of Rev. Stephen Lee (Gentle Lee’s son) preaching on Leviticus. Normally considered the graveyard for people attempting to read through the entire Bible, this speaker not only explained a lot of it clearly, but even made it interesting! All in Cantonese of course, and I tried my best to understand as much of it as I could (sermon language can get quite verbose and complicated).

The night was unofficially capped off when we finished unloading the two vans, returned the Caravan to our friend, and enjoyed a meal at Pho Hong, a Vietnamese restaurant at Times Square, Richmond Hill. Interestingly enough, my friend from high school, Andrew, was working as waiter there — his parents own the place. (Now please don’t go raiding the place looking for dealz guys!).

In Kingston

Tuesday, April 27th, 2004

Hey guess what, I’m in Kingston! Just yesterday I spent all day an hour west of Toronto in Guelph, now I’m 2.5 hours east of Toronto in Kingston. Man, technology (as in bus service, automobiles) has made this world so much smaller.

Apart from helping my sister pack up her room, I took a huge 2 hour walk around town. Kingston’s a nice place to walk around, it is quite pleasant if you pick the right path, and I did just that.

Here’s a high resolution map of my route:

Fun fun eh? I passed places such as Victoria Park, Stauffer Library, the Concurrent Education building, ArtSci ground paintings, the waterfront, Marine Museum of the Great Lakes, and Phnom Penh Restaurant :)

I’ll be staying over here for the night.

What have I been up to?

Lately I’ve been just staying at home, chillin out by myself, keeping my grandma company. I’ve done some laundry for my family, vacuumed most of the house, taken out the garbage, and watched a decent (although still healthy) amount of TV.

Last night I went up to church for the first time since returning to hear the second last lecture in Tony Costa’s apologetics series. He talked about “Invasion of Islam”. Essentially, the seminar was a deep explanation of what the beliefs of Islam are, what it means, how it formed, who Muhammad and Allah are, what the Qur’an says, what the Five Pillars and Five requirements (can’t recall the word) of faith are, and lots of other stuff. I learned a lot on top of what I already know. Tony was very clear and concise, also making sure that he only quoted straight from the Qur’an and the Hadith. I won’t go into more detail about the lecture, but if you’re interested just message me.

I also got to drive home! I haven’t been behind the wheel for a long time now. An interesting topic was being discussed by Jim Whateverhislastname on CFRB1010 - he was playing clips from Kirk Cameron’s evangelism website. Tell me what you think. I think the website is very interesting indeed….

Gotta go. Weird I just had a deja-vu looking at the computer.

Back in Toronto

So, after extensive moving of all my stuff from my room to the apartment at Thomas and Tim’s place, I have returned to Toronto.

I must thank Liz for really being a godsend by allowing me to use her van. I packed till 6AM and woke up at 9:30… it took us just under 2 hours to pack the van and unpack it at the apartment. Thanks a ton to Graeme and Thomas who also helped out a lot. Graeme really needed his sleep after a late night but still was willing to labour for me.

I hung around in rez for a long while before the Greyhound bus arrived, and had a nice chat as I sat next to JP from the Envirosci cluster on the bus.

The first things I did when I got home: greeted my grandma, ate some Chinese buns (!), showered, and took a nap.

:)

Oh, by the way, check out Gmail a pilot project by Google, free email with 1000MB of memory - you’re not supposed to ever have to delete emails.

Finished chemistry tonight, didn’t totally bomb it, I did better than I thought. Thank God. Done exams.

Finished packing up, I didn’t realize that I have THIS much stuff. Done first year.

Done and done.
